The Stroll to 80 – Level 80!
by Syrana on Feb.28, 2009, under World of Warcraft
As you saw from my announcement post latelate last night (or earlyearly this morning), Syrana has reached level 80! Sideshow had hit level 80 at least a good 15 minutes before I did because of his chilled meat and leather farming. The ding occured in Storm Peaks again too!
We were having fun with the mighty Vrykul women disguises. We looked absolutely ridiculous on our mounts. I’m mean… just LOOK at us! lol
So that last level didn’t seem to take very long. Usually the last one seems to just drag and drag and drag. I guess we’ll have to see how quickly I finish it up on Aly now!
Funny thing is, Sideshow had made an offhand comment around the release of Wrath stating that he wasn’t going to rush to 80 and would probably hit it by March. We were by no means using any sort of time table, and managed to ding just a few hours into 2/28/09. How’s that for predictions? Hmm, I didn’t know Sideshow had been a fortune teller with the Darkmoon Faire…
So, now what?
The fun begins! Dailies, reputation, squeezin’ out those last few points to max my professions, create my ebonweave set, create my frost resist set…. we’ve got work to do! And we definitely have gold to earn to recover from the hit we took on training costs! Ugh.
(I had wanted to do a bit of a fuller post upon the grand dingage, but was waaaay too tired when it happened last night otherwise you would have received something like this here post you just read. Coming soon will be another look at the endangered population of ‘locks.)

Davlin has tagged us again to answer some questions in character. The rules are pretty simple: answer the questions, add one, and tag others!
Sideshow in character, huh? Interesting..
1. What is your name, and where did it come from?
Back when I was human, I traveled with the Darkmoon Faire. I was orphaned at a young age and grew up with the freaks and weirdos. They nicknamed me Sideshow. I have since forgotten my birth name.
2. How old are you, and what is your birthday?
As far as I can remember from before the plague, I should be somewhere in my late 30s or early 40s by now. By the looks of me, you’d think I was 100.
3. Are you in love, and with whom?
I’ve had my eye (sockets) on that Syrana, but alas, nobody loves a rotting, old pile of bones like me. I do well enough on my own..me and my pet skull, Skippy McSkullface.
4. What is your favorite mount, and why?
I love rollin’ up on my Purple Skeletal Warhorse (and no, that’s not a euphemism.)
5. Do you prefer a certian type of Azerothonian meal, and where do you get it from? Take out, or dine in?
Fresh, dead gnomes are pretty tasty if I can find (or kill) one. I do enjoy Ogre sometimes, but I usually need to pack some to take home. For a cooked meal, I do enjoy a good helping of Last Week’s Mammoth.
6. You know those giant mushrooms in Zangarmarsh? What is your theory on how they came to be, and why they are so huge?
There’s something in the water, I tell ya. I don’t feel so alone with all those freaks out there.
7. If you saw the Lich King walking towards you, what would you do?
Truthfully, I respect the guy, hell, I used to work for him. I did find a better job with a much cuter boss, though. But, as much as I respect him, I wouldn’t want to meet him face to face alone. I’d probably vanish and quietly step away. Maybe give him a quick tap on the shoulder for good measure.
8. (Dav added this one) Be honest, how many times have you used the Grizzly Hills outhouse without any real reason?
Never been. But, I can’t even crap, so what’s the big deal? One good thing about not having internal organs.
9. (Sideshow and Syrana’s) Would you steal ice cream from a Human child?
Ice cream? Possibly. Depends on how ugly the child is. Frozen custard? The little guy wouldn’t know what hit him.
Syrana tagged enough people for both of us.
A Tagged Interview with Lil’ Miss Syrana

Davlin has tagged us again to answer some questions in character. The rules are pretty simple: answer the questions, add one, and tag others!
So, time for some entertainment!
1. What is your name, and where did it come from?
My name is Syrana. My mama named me before I was born. Some people call me Syr or Sy for short. I once knew this Orc that called me Sysy.
2. How old are you, and what is your birthday?
*scrunches up nose* I’m… 8ish in Human years. My birthday is in November. It’s a ways away, but I hope you remember when it comes around… *cheeky grin*
3. Are you in love, and with whom?
I love my mama. I’m too young for that mushy gushy stuff. *covers her face bashfully*
4. What is your favorite mount, and why?
I love all my animals! But, I really like flying around on my wyvern. I wish my little whelplings would be big enough to ride around on though…
5. Do you prefer a certian type of Azerothonian meal, and where do you get it from? Take out, or dine in?
I’m a pretty good cook. Better than mama, actually, but don’t tell her I said that! I like anything that gives me a boost. But what I really like is cake. Chocolate cake. Mmmm.
6. You know those giant mushrooms in Zangarmarsh? What is your theory on how they came to be, and why they are so huge?
I have seen those! I like picnicing on top of them. I just thought since it’s so… marshy.. that is why they were huge. The bog lords don’t seem interested in cutting them down. The ogres seemed to like them a lot, so maybe they did it!
7. If you saw the Lich King walking towards you, what would you do?
Well, I really think he needs someone to warm his heart. When I feel all grumpy I feel better when mama gives me a hug. But! I don’t think he’d let me get that close, so I’d probably howl in terror if he was walking right at me.
8. (Dav added this one) Be honest, how many times have you used the Grizzly Hills outhouse without any real reason?
I haven’t used one in Grizzly Hills, but I’ve had to use one at the Darkmoon Faire before. Those ones are pretty stinky from all the people and the ale!
9. (Sideshow and Syrana’s) Would you steal ice cream from a Human child?**
*evil laugh* Of course I would from a Human child! Although, I’d probably make it a bit more fun. I would inflict them with a searing pain, making them loosen their grip on it!
**That question is actually on our guild application! Hehehe
*Runs around giggling, tapping people on their shoulder*

Place Your Bets Now!
by Syrana on Feb.25, 2009, under World of Warcraft
Goodness, I’ve been flooded with a gazillion ideas and no time to forumlate sentences, let alone posts. Well, I’ve been posting, just haven’t been able to tackle all the crazy stuff in my head. But, it’s time for an update on my characters!
In the lead we have Syrana at level 79, which she hit over a week ago.
In second place we have Alynedarra, my hunter, at level 79, which she hit last night.
Who, oh, who will hit 80 first? My main or my “main alt”?
Some guildies seem to be making bets (not confirmed) on which toon will hit 80 first. So this should be interesting. Of course, Aly used to be my main. Am I switching again? Hell naw. But Aly did hit 70 first back in… uhm.. July 2007. Then Syrana was born at the end of ’07 and hit 70 a few months into 2008. And she was leveled fairly quickly (for me) and before all the experience boosts put in by Blizz.
On with the rambling!
Last week I ran Side’s new shaman alt, Keli, and Pex through RFC. Keli shared one of the quests with me, since I apparently hadn’t done that one on Aly ever. But, little did I realize, the quest came from Varimathras. Yep, that’s right. I couldn’t turn it in because he no longer exists in Aly’s world.
Grizzly PvP
On Monday night, I decided to check out some more Grizzly Hills quests and even did some of the PvP daily quests at the Blue Sky Logging Camp. When I started to search for parts, there was a level 80 night elf druid that tried to give me some grief, but I hadn’t landed yet. So I flew away like a scared little girl. Then all was pretty quiet. I saw some other Hordies there in a group. But I was 78 at the time and by myself, like the brave huntress I am. Then I got slaughtered by a level 80 gnome rogue. /growl
Then the fun really came in as I finished up the dailies. I saw a level 80 draenei deathknight. I was hovering in the air, about to turn in my quests when I had an idea. I figured I’d probably die, but thought I’d take my chances. (continue reading…)
Hell Bent for Leather (and Chilled Meat)
by Sideshow on Feb.24, 2009, under Gaming, World of Warcraft
Thought I’d do a post that may help a few people. Being a Leatherworker and also a cooker of fine meats, I usually need lots of Chilled Meat and Borean Leather. There are two good places that I’ve found that gives you both of these, depending on your level.
If your from 68-74 or so, a good place for these is in Howling Fjord near the Explorer’s League Outpost on the map. Here, there are a ton (or is that a herd) of seals. Most of them are neutral, so you won’t need to worry about pulling too many. There are only a few red Bull Lion Seal’s in the area and only one per group. They usually range from level 68-71 or so. They have a very good drop rate for the Chilled Meat and you usually get either Borean Leather Scraps or Borean Leather when skinning. I’ve also skinned a good share of Arctic Fur from these guys.
The only pain about this area is if you’re not able to fly yet. Getting down there on foot requires working your way down this confusing scaffolding, unless you’re a rogue. But, what’s more fun than killing helpless seal babies?
If you’re higher in level, from like 75-80, then a good spot that I found is in Sholazar Basin right near the Frenzyhearts on Frenzyheart Hill. This area has a whole bunch of Hardknuckle Foragers and Hardknuckle Chargers. The latter being red and the first one being neutral. The Chilled Meat drop isn’t as high as the seals, but they do drop Borean Leather and not scraps.
Due to almost every cooking daily needing Chilled Meat and Leatherworking needing Heavy Borean Leather not only for creating stuff but also as currency to buy new recipes, it’s a good place to farm. Do any of you have a better place that you go to farm this?
Moving Onward (RP)

(Part 6) For a complete list of this series, please go here.
Ashes and embers clouded the air as Aerissa stamped out the last of the dying fire. The morning sun started to light up the woods around them. Aerissa was already awake and hadn’t slept very well through the night. Aerissa chewed at her bottom lip as she packed up what little belongings she had. One pack was full of skins, extra branches for arrows, and her handmade pillow. She carefully filled another pack with smoked meat, berries and nuts she had gathered.
“C’mon, we need to get moving while the sun is up,” she said to the Lynx as she surveyed the now empty cave.
The Lynx stretched his back, and yawned lazily, watching her scurry around. He sat down, slowly lifting his large hind paw to scratch at his ear. He shook his head then walked over to her. Aerissa fastened one of the packs to his back, patting his head. She strapped the other pack to her own back and slung her bow and quiver over her shoulder.
“I think we are ready…” she said with an edge of nervousness in her voice.
Aerissa and the Lynx trekked through the bright woods for a good portion of the day. The high sun was warm, but there was a gentle breeze. She continued to mull over her mixed emotions of heading towards the settlement that must be within the dark woods. She knew she couldn’t survive forever in the woods, and felt she had made the right decision.
As they approached the area they had reached yesterday, where the bright woods changed, she paused. The Lynx continued a few paces further into the dark woods before he realized she had stopped. He turned and sat down, waiting. Aerissa looked back at the bright woods and took a deep breath. She summoned her courage to continue with her decision to find the settlement within.
Satisfied that she was continuing forward, the Lynx began to walk again. His hackles rose as they became surrounded by the dark trees. Every snap of a branch and rustle of dry grass made Aerissa jump. After a few miles, a large shadow loomed over them. Aerissa looked up, and saw it was another winged creature, flying to the east. She nodded curtly, pleased to know they were heading in the right direction.
Continuing forward, Aerissa began taking in the devastated forest around her. The trees were dark, lifeless, and the ground was black with patches of sickly weeds. Her long slender ears heard faint whispers upon the wind, causing the hairs on the back of her neck to rise. Aerissa caught her breath, stopping abruptly. A deep pain could be felt in the chilled air. The Lynx appeared to hear the sounds as well. He stopped to lift his nose, sniffing at the air as his ears twisted at the faint sounds.
“Pssh psssh psssh~” Aerissa gasped, catching the sight of a wispy figure out of the corner of her eye. She turned quickly, but it was gone. The Lynx whined, his ears back. (continue reading…)
Merry Happy Unbirthday!
by Syrana on Feb.22, 2009, under World of Warcraft
Last Friday, I hosted another social guild event. This event was set up (quickly and belatedly) to celebrate the creation of our guild’s chapter of OI on Eitrigg, which was created on 2/10/06. You would think this would have been combined with the previous week’s Valentine’s Party, but no. No. I needed to set up a social event to advertise to all guild members and press upon the importance of our guild leader’s attendance for a higher purpose.
To present a special gift.
Brainstorm
During the planning our the Valentine event, Neph brought up the idea of presenting our guild leader, Les, with a special gift. A way to show our appreciation of him. Her and I were tossing around some ideas such as getting a crafted epic for him. A few days later, Daank suggested a sweet new ride: the hog.
We knew our very own Goz could craft one (Gozaar Davidson ftw!) and we began planning. We made announcements to guild members while Les was not on to let people know of this plan and to ask for donations. We were unable to reach our initial goal of having it ready by the Valentine beach party, but that was fine. Although, it was ready to leave the shop soon afterwards. I had to think of a good way to get everyone together again without making Les suspicious and without having to do all sorts of secret communication.
This is when I remembered that our guild chapter was created in February. A quick /ginfo confirmed that we were a bit belated, but it would suffice. It would be a wonderful opportunity to get together, have some fun, and present a special gift to a special leader.
Cha-ching
Amusing thing though, if you check out the sidebar for Syrana’s recent achievements… see it? See the one for the hog? After Goz created it, he mailed it to me. I left it in my mailbox until the day of the event because I was ridiculously paranoid of equipping it to myself. So, about an hour before the event is to begin, I go to take it out of the mailbox in order to wrap it up nice and pretty.
Yeah, as soon as it went into my bag, I got the achievement. Thank goodness, Les was not on yet. Although, a few members were not aware of my devious sneaky ways and were genuinely thanking me. I suppose the achievement technically says “obtain” and not equip, but jeepers! So, I falsely hold that achievement.

Your Band Sucks
by Sideshow on Feb.22, 2009, under Music
Here is a fun one that I ran into. Give it a try.
Create your own band and debut album cover randomly
To Do This:
- Go to Wikipedia. Hit “random” or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random The first random Wikipedia article that comes up is the name of your band.
- Go to Quotations Page and select “random quotations” or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3. The last four or five words of the very LAST quote on the page is the title of your first album.
- Go to Flickr and click on “explore the last seven days” or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days - The third picture in the top row, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
Here is mine:

Sorry for the late posting of today’s screenshot. In all the excitement of posting screenies after being tagged, I didn’t get today’s ready to go!
Last Week’s Screenshot Recap
Last week’s shot was of my hunter, Alynedarra, kneeling next to one of the graves by Nesingwary’s camp in Sholozar Basin. One of them has some roses laid on it, and Aly felt the need to pay her respects.
