Feign Death (RP)

“Ugh,” Aerissa groaned, shooing flies away from her face as she dropped the heavy bag from her shoulder. The smell of Knucklerot’s head was getting worse.
He’ll be here soon.
Aerissa nodded, pushing the bag aside with her boot. They had decided to move up along the Dead Scar in order to intercept Luzran, the other abomination on the wanted poster, before he came across the remains of Knucklerot. Pulling a skin of water from her pack, she took a long drink. The woods felt warm this evening. Her skin still felt damp with perspiration from the earlier fight. She poured some of the water over her hair and face. Gasping from the cool water, she wiped at her face and shook her wet hair. (continue reading…)
Stream of Consciousness
by Sideshow on Mar.30, 2009, under Gaming, General, Humor
So, Syrana is making me do all of this work coming up with name inspiration and 10 things about myself. What is this, school? I jest. It’s about time I post something on here, right?
What’s in a Name?
Sideshow – I’m not 100% sure how I got this name. I usually ended up getting nicknames based around the letter “Z” due to my last name, like Z-Dog or Z. I like ‘em, but they’re kinda boring. For some reason, while playing an FPS with some friends, they started calling me Sideshow, so I starting using it in that game. When I created my first WoW character, I decided to use that name and designed him with that in mind. This is why Sideshow has crazy, circus-freak hair.
Zideshow – No inspiration there, really. Created originally to be a bank alt, but I had fun playing the mage, so it stuck. It also happens to be my Xbox Live gamertag since Sideshow was taken and Zideshow is a nice “Z”-based version of it. See what I did there?
Zod – Completely and shamelessly stolen from Superman II’s own General Zod. I was really hoping to PvP a bunch in the beginning to unlock the “General” tag on the Horde side, but alas, I couldn’t farm PvP like you needed to back then. Now, KNEEL BEFORE ME!
Gertbee – My dwarf hunter. I was looking for a not-so-serious, jolly kind of name. I remember finding the name that Christopher Walken’s character in Joe Dirt chose to go by at the end of the movie hilarious, so it stuck. Turns out that it was really Gert B. Frobe, instead of Gertbee. But, mine is funnier.
The rest, I think, have been random name generator names or taken from books, history or fantasy to try to at least capture the feel of the type of character it was. Like: Luminthia (Priest), Gudrott (Orc DK), Heks (DK), and Archiluras (Warlock).
All About Meeee..
10 things..hmm.
- Huge Metallica fan (and most metal, in general) They were the first band that I really attached to growing up and they will always be at the top of my list. As cool as it is to hate them for most people, I will always enjoy what they release and what they’ve done. I had the opportunity to meet James Hetfield, the singer and Jason Newsted, the ex-bassist in 1997.
- When I was in sixth grade I was playing basketball with my friend J.R. and slam dunking the ball off of a crate. I slammed it and hung on too long and fell off backwards and busted my left wrist out-of-place, it was shaped like an “S”. Then 4-weeks later on the second-last day of school at the roller-skating rink with my class and I fell backward and busted my right wrist. So, two broken arms for the summer.
- I really got into Genealogy when my Grandpa died in 1999. I thought I’d work on it before any more people who had the information were no longer around. My grandpa’s family is still one the elusive lines that I’m stuck on. Figures, huh? It’s really cool to unravel the mystery of where you came from and without the Internet I definitely wouldn’t be as far as I am. I regularly blog about it on my genealogy site, Zalewski Family Genealogy.
- I can be really outgoing. It depends on my mood and where I am/who I’m with. But, usually I’m pretty quiet. People always think I’m mad or bored. But, I’m rarely mad (but maybe bored.) I found this t-shirt that says, “I’m really excited to be here” on it, which usually works pretty well.
- Born and raised in Wisconsin and against popular belief, I don’t only consume cheese, brats, beer, and milk. Well, not all the time or all at once.
- Syrana and I originally met online, Yahoo Personals if I remember right. My grandma once asked if we met in the “Same Birthday” chatroom.
- I have a short attention span for a lot of things, including gaming. I’ll jump around to different games. I’ve figured out how to jump around enough to not get really burned-out from a game, like WoW. Currently, jumping around to WoW, Eve Online, Guitar Hero: Metallica and Left 4 Dead.
- I bought and played WoW the first time without even trying it. My friends at work always talked about it. One day I just perused the website and decided to get it on my way home. The guy at the counter said, “Nice knowing you” when he gave it to me. What did he mean by that? Silly cashier.
- I’ve been developing and *cough*designing*cough* websites since somewhere around 1996-97. It started with my days using the BBSes and then the good ‘ol text-only Lynx browser. (Are we Lynx-friendly?) Now, get off my lawn!
- Ten is a composite number, its proper divisors being 1, 2 and 5. Ten is the smallest noncototient, a number that can not be expressed as the difference between any integer and the total number of coprimes below it. It’s also how many fingers I have.
Naxxtastic: A Small Guild’s First Attempt
by Syrana on Mar.30, 2009, under World of Warcraft
As many of you have noticed around here, there aren’t many posts that talk about boss downage. Our guild is small and focuses on community first and are not what you’d consider a ‘raiding’ guild. We do have a lot of really great and skillful members, so the fact that we consider ourselves a ‘casual’ guild does not = bad players. If I wasn’t so biased, I’d say we have one of the greatest mixes of new players and veterans alike. Until more recently though, we’ve never really had the fortune of having enough guildies geared to attempt some raids.
So, you may see a few more of these types of posts from time to time. We’re talking about scheduling a weekly raid night, which I’m really hoping for. (continue reading…)

Last week’s recap
No one ventured a guess on where the odd doll looking thing was found. Well, at least no one said in the comments, but that’s ok! Maybe no one wanted to admit they didn’t find the doll and take it straight to the lost and found. Or maybe they like the puppymen and not the bigtongues. That’s right, I found the doll while doing the Oracle dailies over by Sparktouched Haven, where I am sent with a request to slaughter numerous Wolvar baddies in one of 3 flavors of execution.
Introducing…
Several of these features have been located in Northrend, so I figured it was time to dig back a little further in my screenshots to find something pre-Wrath again. And, I just like the look of this one for some reason!
Meme-ish: Bloggy Awards!
by Syrana on Mar.28, 2009, under Gaming, General, World of Warcraft

“This award is bestowed upon a fellow blogger whose blog content or design is, in the giver’s opinion, brilliant.”
Today’s edition of the Bloggy Awards features the evil sweetheart Syrana of Sideshow & Syrana.
We have been nominated by: Faulsey of Master’s Call, Fulguralis of Killing ‘em Slowly, Gnomeaggedon of Armaggedon’s Coming, Thedoctor of WTFspaghetti, and Spooner of Spooncraft.
I really want to say thank you and happily accept these awards. I must say I was a bit surprised to see how many nominations we received and it made us all warmfuzzy inside. (Or was that just a bit of fire burning in Syrana’s tummy?) I am honored to receive such recognition and to be apart of our wonderful blogging community!

I found this over at WoW Bash. Pretty funny stuff and this one just seemed…. fitting for some reason.
TLC Thursday – Should it Stay or Should it Go?
by Syrana on Mar.26, 2009, under General, World of Warcraft
Welcome to the first (and hopefully not last) installment of TLC Thursday. Here’s what I was thinking. People see TLC and think “tender loving care” (or 1990s music). Then I mixed that with link love and further mixed it with the Rainbow Connection and came up with: The Link Connection.
Yeah, I can be special like that.
TLC Announcement
So here it is. The first one. I don’t know if it will be recurring or not (let me know your thoughts!). If it is recurring, it may not be every Thursday. But, as our traffic here and readership has continued to grow steadily (which makes us excited!), I thought it would be appropriate to spread some love around the blogosphere. Although, if you have ended up here, you likely are quite familiar with many of the blogs I read. But! Today I wanted to introduce you to a few new warlock blogs that have come to my attention.
Yes, you read that right! New warlock blogs! *Rejoice*
So go say welcome to the community!
Oh! And go check out Deekow’s “Build-An-Alt” Project. That’s right, through the power of the polls, we get to control his alt’s destiny. Go check it out!
Other Blog Related Shtuff
I have not added the badges yet for Twisted Nether Wiki, Alltop, and Blog Azeroth, but it’s on my to-do list. Got myself a little too focused on the writing and forgot to keep up on some of the other goodies! /searches for Sideshow
I’m going to be working on adding some new subcategories to the WoW category to make looking for things a bit easier. I don’t think any one’s having trouble finding what then want/need here, but it’s something I’d like to do before there’s too many posts to go back and re-categorize.
Our posting schedule has been fairly consistent (other than me getting sick last week). I’m still trying to keep it limited to 1 post a day, but you’ll occasionally see 2 in one day. This is mostly time related. I also just wanted to highlight a couple recurring post types, since we have 4 now! I think that’s good… I hope that’s good… /bites nails
Anyhow, here’s an idea of what can be expected throughout your week here:
Sundays – Screenshot Sunday
Tuesdays – RP posts (at this time, continuing Aerissa’s story)
1st Wednesday of the month – Word of the Month
Thursdays – TLC? (let me know!)
Fridays – Friday Funnies (at least, funny to me
)
So there ya have it. Just wanted to do a little updated housekeeping and announcement type stuff.

Cultural Diversity in Azeroth: Part Two – The (Playable) Races
by Syrana on Mar.25, 2009, under Humor, World of Warcraft
Last week we had the Intro to this little series. Today, I’d like for us to take a look at the stereotypes out there for the playable races in WoW. I must limit it to playable because it would be quite the daunting task to encompass every single race within Warcraft.
Although, maybe we could look at some of them down the road? /ponder
Here I give to you a list of player race stereotypes (good and/or bad). These can be formulated through role playing, lore, playing experience, relation to real world (out of character) things, whathaveyou. A Test of Skill (RP)

(Part 9) For a complete list of this series, please go here.
Aerissa entered the kitchen of the Inn excitedly, waving around a piece of parchment. Twyla’s head bobbed up and down as she tried to focus on the moving poster. She placed a hand gently on Aerissa’s wrist, stilling the poster.
“Rissy, are ya sure ye want to go after one of them?” Twyla snapped her finger at the wanted poster in Aerissa’s hands.
“One of them? Twyla, I’m going to get both of them,” she said with stern determination. She flipped the flier over, eyeing the crude hand drawn faces.
“Both?” Twyla coughed, shaking her head in disbelief. “Child, ya gonna kill ye and Locke there. Those abominations are not ta be trifled with. They be on the poster an’ offerin’ rewards cos they not easy to…” She saw Aerissa tap the parchment a couple times, nodding curtly. Twyla let out a long breath, “I wish ye tha best o’ luck, dearie. I… I will keep ya bed fer a bit, hm?”
The corners of Aerissa’s mouth turned up ever so slightly. She appreciated the kindness and concern Twyla expressed. Aerissa could not recall many others that had shown any regrets at the thought of her life being in danger. “Thank you, Twyla. But do not worry. Locke and I will be back before the sun sets more than twice.” She rubbed and patted Locke’s side. “We shall retire for the evening so we may be well rested for the hunt tomorrow.” (continue reading…)

Last week’s recap
Well, no surprise, last week Syrana was stuck in a well in Dalaran. I’m glad it brought laughs to many. And, Inspired Ogre, I will try not to chase anymore wabbits.
