Friday Freebies!
by Syrana on Apr.10, 2009, under World of Warcraft
I think we can all agree that contests are awesome and free stuff is awesome. Especially free stuff we want. Previously I haven’t really advertised any contests, but heck, I’m entering these!
Side note – I did submit my entry for the Blizzard Creative Writing Contest. Deadline is April 12th. I actually decided to take a portion of Aerissa’s current story to use as a short story. I had a great idea in my mind for a short story to use specifically for the contest, but the deadline snuck up so fast and I didn’t want to risk NOT finishing it in time. Wish us luck! *crosses fingers*
- New Arthas novel giveaway contests!
1 – Blizzard’s (Lasts until April 20th)
2 – Random Ravings of Warcraft (Lasts until April 24th)
- Launch of WoW Relief – Chance for a Best Buy gift card (Lasts until April 14th)
(The only one I’m not creative enough to enter is the web comic, but I would love to see what you, my dear readers, could put forth!)
Good luck to us all!
Friday Funnies: IRL Achievement Whorde
by Syrana on Apr.10, 2009, under Humor, World of Warcraft
A thank you goes out to a new guildie who inspired me to complete this achievement and share it with you all! (Yes, I had a little free time at work for once!)
TLC Thursday: Links and Confessions
by Syrana on Apr.09, 2009, under World of Warcraft
Welcome to another wonderful edition of The Link Connection, brought to you on Thursdays, where we spread some link love. (Gotta give back what’s been given to you, amirite?!)
The Links
The launch of the multi-blog project I was hinting at was yesterday. If you didn’t catch the first part of the “Create Your Own Azeroth” story, do so now over at Hardcore Casual!
Check out Drillpress’s post on working your way to being the Guardian of Cenarius.
Duct Tape and a Prayer presents this amusing (yet too real) Flow Chart to help you determine when to heal or not to heal DPS.
Ever seen an Ogre accept an award? Now you can say you have!
The Egotistical Priest, Vonya, poses an interesting idea that I’d love to see implemented in game.
The Confession
Ok, so there aren’t multiple confessions to warrant a plural of the word confession. And it’s not a huge confession, I don’t think. Maybe. I don’t know. (continue reading…)
Pre-TLC Advert: Check Out The Show!

Word of the Month: Good Game (GG)
by Syrana on Apr.08, 2009, under Gaming, World of Warcraft
While Brajana at Mend Pet likes to help broaden our vocabulary with her WoW Word of the Week posts, we like to take a look each month at a little bit of gamer vernacular history. (We do enjoy her posts and if you haven’t checked them out yet, I suggest you do so!)
Good Game aka GG
Examples:
GG Blizz.
Oh, you died again, GG noob!
I actually haven’t seen GG used as much lately as I used to. Then again, I’m not in general or trade chat as much as I used to be.
This phrase seems to have evolved from a nice friendly comment at the end of an online game into a more sarcastic and condescending phrase. And I think it has evolved. Interestingly enough, I cannot find much on the way of “history” of this phrase. Everything just leads to the definition of the acronym or says it is a sarcastic phrase.
But back in the day, many of us liked to acknowledge a good game that was played and would say so with both parties either typing it out or shortening it to GG. Especially after a great challenge of chess or somesuch. Of course, people like to shorten things to acronyms because we get lazy at the keyboard (admit it!) and you want to get that last word out before the other player leaves.
Nowadays, especially in WoW, people usually are being sarcastic by saying GG or good game. They are either complaining (as in the GG Blizz example) or berating someone’s lack of leet pwnage.
What are your thoughts? Do you think GG was always intended as a sarcastic “good job” comment? Have you ever used GG? And what word/phrase/acronym would you like us to explore next month?
Blog Achievments: 100 Posts
by Syrana on Apr.07, 2009, under Gaming, General, World of Warcraft
We here at S&S have hit another milestone that I’d set awhile back. That’s right, this is post #100! I was going to put this up after the 100th post, then figured it’d really be showcasing post #101 instead at that point.
Here’s hopin’ for another 100 more! *raises glass*
A Warm Welcome (RP)
by Syrana on Apr.07, 2009, under Role-Playing, World of Warcraft
(Part 11) For a complete list of this series, please go here.
“Your reward?” the Blood Elf guard scoffed. He still covered his nose and mouth with his hand as he attempted to peer inside the bag.
Aerissa nodded, catching her breath as she retrieved a folded piece of parchment from her pack. She shook it open, holding it out to the guards. “Yes, my reward.”
The elven guard snapped the parchment from her hand, scanning over the wanted poster. He raised his brow, eying Aerissa with new interest as he handed the poster over to the Forsaken guard. The Forsaken guard bobbed his head as he looked over the poster. He stepped forward, opening the bag and peering in. He stared intently into the bag for a few moments before giving Aerissa a wicked smile.
“Come, let’s deliver these to Deathstalker Rathiel. He will want these right away.” He closed the bag, hefting it over his shoulder. The Blood Elf guard gagged from the smell, his face extremely pale. The Forsaken guard chuckled as he headed up the path, Aerissa and Locke following close behind. (continue reading…)
Screenshot Sunday: The Shape of Things

Last week’s recap
Indeed, Sibyll was correct that this was from the Twilight Ridge in Nagrand. That area was generally only seen by those grinding the Netherwing dailies. Chibikeni was on the right continent, though, at least!
Introducing…
I found this and thought: Neat! Where’d it come from? What made that?
Now I ask you, any clue where I found it?

Memeku, Warlock Style
by Syrana on Apr.03, 2009, under World of Warcraft
We’ve recently been tagged by Elleiras of Fel Fire for the WoWku meme. Or, as I called it earlier, Lockku, for the haikus that are, y’know, warlock related. Fimlys from Asleep at the WoW brought this meme back with a class flavor. (*Edit: We were also tagged by Gaming Diva. I read her post, saw the tag, and am ashamed to say I forgot to link her when I got to the post later in the evening. I’m sorry!)
Not a soul left to drain here
Mine’s the only one.
Their Souls have all been taken
They are in my bag.

Haunting, Dotting, and Draining
Affliction for life.
Well, there ya have it. Nothing fancy shmancy, but not too shabby either, if I do say so myself.
*buffs nails on chest*
Oh, right! Tagging! Well, for once, I’m not gonna select tagees. Poetry needs to be inspired, in my opinion, so I would like anyone that feels inspired after reading my ‘kus, to post their own! The choice is yours…. (do eeet)
