Screenshot Sunday: Another Twister

by on May.31, 2009, under Screenshots, World of Warcraft

Last week’s recap

The pleasing view of Mulgore’s gently sloping hills was sure to help anyone relax last Sunday.  I also hope you enjoyed the break of guessing what I’ve screenshotted for (oftentimes) no apparent reason.

Introducing . . .

We’ve seen a swirly, twirly before.  The last one was taken above a piller in Sholazar Basin while looking down.  This one… well, I’ll let you guess!

BlizzCon Queue Reduex (aka LineCon 2009)

by on May.30, 2009, under World of Warcraft

blizzcon1

Ahh, yes.  Today another batch of tickets went on sale for BlizzCon 2009.  Sideshow and I were ready, or so we thought.

Twitter was wrought with anticipation as the countdown began.

@greyseer: *waves to everyone else setting up camp for BlizzCon tickets, and also everyone else not* ‘mornin’, all.

@Syrana: *scoots lawn chair along slowly* Mornin’. Damn lines. /sigh ;P

@greyseer: And so begins LineCon 2009! =P

(As you can see, credit for part of the title goes to @greyseer!)

We partied up with a guildmate in hopes that 1 of the 3 of us would be successful instead of trying to solo the queue like Sideshow did on the 16th.  This time, they didn’t seem to go on sale early.  Sideshow and I were refreshin’ away when both of us saw “tickets available” at 12pm CST (10am PST).  Sideshow actually hit the “proceed to checkout” button first, but I managed to be higher in the queue than him.

At 7003.

That’s where I entered it.

Oh no! That was even worse than we did last time… it looked like we were doomed.

Then, my phone alerts… incoming text message from guildie asking “What position?”

Crap! My counter says “undetermined” then flips me to the Blizzard store page with an empty shopping cart.  Sideshow was at 6800something.  I text back with our fail positions.

He texts back.. he’s at 1600something!

My heart leaps! I get excited, nervous, and scared.

I wait a bit, see tweets about people getting tickets and the running stock countdown by @wowinsider.

I start to get more nervous since I haven’t heard anything back.

Finally, I text “Success?”

“Yes”

Woot! Sideshow and Syrana will not only be IN Anaheim, CA, but we will be able to go INTO BlizzCon as well!

Now, to break the news to Capwn that he can’t go….

And.. to costume or not to costume? Where do I start? Ahhh!

Oh, one more thing – check out the RSVP list for the Twisted Nether/Blog Azeroth meetup so far.  If you are going to BlizzCon and aren’t on that list yet, you should be!

Friday Funnies: Nine Inch Nails + Murloc + Rock Band = Win

by on May.29, 2009, under Entertainment, Gaming, Music, Video, World of Warcraft, Xbox 360

I really can’t begin to describe what you are about to see.  This video is the crown jewel, the cream of the crop, the best of the best of the Rock Band videos we have with our good ol’ friend here.

I seriously thought I was going to die laughing and almost had to leave the house.  You might even be able to hear me laughing and gasping for breath.

The best stuff of this video is actually near the end, that’s where you will hear the murloc.

Watch… if you dare! /cackle /giggle /choke

I Like Lava (OS 10 Cleared)

by on May.28, 2009, under World of Warcraft

As some of you may know, our guild is not a raiding guild.  However, that doesn’t mean we don’t know how to play or don’t want to see content.  I posted previously about our first attempt at 10man Naxxramas.  Since that post, we have gone into Naxx 2 more times.

We have not been able to finish off the Arachnid Quarter though due to that evil spidey, Maexxna.  However, the last time we went in, we took down Anub’Rehkan and Faerlina quite quickly.  After getting stuck on Maexxna, we decided to head into the Plague Quarter.  There, we were able to easily down Noth the Plaguebringer.  We attempted the Heigan dance a couple times before calling it as we hit our time limit.

One of the things I did find interesting about the Naxx progress was the fact that only about 4-5 of us were signed up for all those runs.  So, to look at the progress we’ve made since that first attempt, it’s interesting to note that we had different group compositions each time and people new to the fights. Truly, truly.

Anyway, just a quick post to say we’re enjoying our wedding anniversary today!  Although, the weather here is not as gorgeous as it was on that day. ;)

Running Away (RP)

by on May.26, 2009, under Role-Playing, World of Warcraft

(Part 18) For the rest of this series, please go here.

Locke paced the room, watching Aerissa anxiously.  He tried to calm her down, but his attempts proved fruitless.  Aerissa was a blur of movement as she raced around the room, grabbing all of her belongings in no particular order and packing them haphazardly into her bags.

Aerissa please… Locke sat down, raising a paw in the air.  He tilted his head, his eyes saddened by what he was witnessing.

“I must go.  Where’s the dagger? Locke! Tell me now!” her voice became shrill, a wild and desperate look in her eyes.

Sit down a moment, Rissa, we’ll sort this out.  You are safe here.

“I’m not safe anywhere! Especially not here!” she choked back tears, her cheeks already stained from the intermittent flow of her emotions.

Aerissa glanced quickly around the room.  Satisfied, she shouldered her bags, quiver, and bow the best she could and rushed down the stairs two at a time.  Locke jogged after her, whining, but Aerissa paid him no mind.

“Twyla!” Aerissa yelled, a strain heard in her voice.  “Give me my dagger.  I know it’s got to be here somewhere.”  She started to rifle through the front desk in the common area. (continue reading…)

Memorial Day: Azeroth’s Fallen Heroes

by on May.25, 2009, under World of Warcraft

For those readers within the United States, today we have a holiday: Memorial Day.  Many of us have off of work (or school) and have a tradition of traveling, grilling out, and spending time with family on this day.  Memorial Day is also a day to remember those that have served in the US Military, especially those that never returned home.

Today, I would like us to take a glimpse at who would be honored if there was a Memorial Day in World of Warcraft.  I want to thank @Athryn, @Kenichan, and @Samodean for responding to my tweets requesting feedback on a list of fallen heroes.

After looking at the list below, who else would you add?

Last Week’s Recap

Congratulations go to Erinys! Rage Fang Shrine in Grizzly Hills was correct!  It is more than possible that there are other campfires throughout the game that are cooking fish, but this specific screenshot was taken at Rage Fang Shrine.

And the Winners of Blizzard’s Writing Contest Are…

by on May.22, 2009, under General, World of Warcraft

…not Syrana.

AYUMi @ flickr

AYUMi @ flickr

Over a month has gone by since I entered the Global Creative Writing Contest.  Some of you may remember me posting about it.  I was brainstorming and not feeling satisfied with what was developing in my brain in relation to the amount of time I had to crank it out.  So, I had decided to submit a selection from Aerissa’s on-going story.  Parts 6 through 10, I felt, could stand on their own as a short story.

I know there had to have been hundreds, if not thousands, of entries.  I also know they couldn’t possibly send out feedback to everyone.  But, how awesome would it be to know that Chris Metzen held my story within his hands… well, then it would mean he had cast it aside.  So I suppose that isn’t so awesome anymore! Heh.

Anyway, since submitting my entry in early April, I’ve been anxiously awaiting the announcement of winners.  To be honest, from the begining I felt my entry was not high enough quality to be in contention for the grand prize.  But, I thought I might have a shot at an honorable mention.

I mean, I have been out of the writing game for quite some time and only recently have gotten back into it (with regularity too!) when this blog started up.  I know there’s room for improvement and the only way to improve is to keep writing.

Oh right, back to the announcement.

So, just as I see Greyseer’s tweet about the winners being posted (finally, since we’d been waiting all day!), Sideshow asked if I wanted to go out for ice cream.

I say, “Let me see the winners first.”

I figure, if my name is on there = celebration ice cream.  If my name is not on there = consolation ice cream.  (Either way, ice cream is win.  Well, actually, frozen custard.)

So I look through this list.  My name isn’t anywhere.  I’m not even sure if the people listed are people I know of or not.  (What are real names?!)  I start to have some pangs of writer insecurity.  I share these feelings to get them out of my system quickly.

Will I stop writing? Hell naw.

At the end of the day, I still won because I followed through on entering a submission.  I still love to write.  And, I still know there are people that enjoy my writing.

I do wish a hearty congratulations to all of those whom were selected and I look forward to reading your submissions…. to enjoy as well as learn from.

Friday Funnies: This is for all the Hawt Ladies Out There

by on May.22, 2009, under Entertainment, Humor, Music, Video, Xbox 360

Our third post ever (well, Sideshow’s second post, the site’s third post) featured a video of a friend that plays Rock Band with us.  Today, I’d like to share another one of these gems with you all.  We have too much fun making these, I think.  Although, it’s been quite a few months since we’ve made one.  We’re about due.

And, yes, ladies, we know him in real life.  I could hook ya up. *waggles eyebrows*
