Friday Funnies: The Dangers of Joking About Account Hacking
by Syrana on Oct.16, 2009, under World of Warcraft
The other night, one of our guildmates logged on. After a round of “Oi’s” (our way of sayin’ hello), that guidie says it’s not them, that they hacked the account. Since a few guildies have been hacked in the past, one of the officers quickly demoted them in order to restrict guild bank access – just in case.
As it turned out, they weren’t really hacked but I came up with a new guild event idea when the officer that acted quickly on the demotion wanted to know if it was ok to restore their rank.
The moral of this story? Don’t joke about your account getting hacked, or you might lose a couple bags as well as your bank access.
I’m A Noob Again
by Syrana on Oct.14, 2009, under Gaming, World of Warcraft
(To the tune of “On The Road Again” by Willie Nelson – which, by the way, is totally outside my normal musical selection)
I’m a noob again
Just can’t wait to figure it all out again
The game I love is adventurin’ with my friends
And I can’t wait to figure it all out again.
I’m a noob again
Questin’ in places that I’ve never been
Rollin’ things that I might never roll again
And I can’t wait to figure it all out again.
That’s right. I, Syrana, controller of demons and dark magic artistry, am a noob again. (continue reading…)
Youth Gone Wild
by Sideshow on Oct.13, 2009, under Gaming, Music, Xbox 360
With today’s release of the video game Brütal Legend (which I will buy soon) I decided to check out the soundtrack and I was amazed at how long and brutal it was. In honor of this nod to metal, I wanted to allow everyone to listen to every song on this soundtrack to see what a great job they did creating it.
It plays as a kick-ass path through some of the great metal of the past and present from Black Sabbath to Dethkolk to Megadeth. Continue on to see every song on the soundtrack and a link to listen to it. Be warned: It’s brutal. (continue reading…)
The Face of a Child (RP)
by Syrana on Oct.13, 2009, under Role-Playing, World of Warcraft
(Part 33) For the complete listing of this series, please go here.
Aly sighed, noting how red her eyes were in the mirror. She finished brushing her hair, deciding not to pull it back today. She figured it would be best to allow for some of her hair to fall across her face in order to, hopefully, draw attention away from her bloodshot eyes. She’d stayed up way to late, drinking in the bar area of the inn with the other seedy patrons of Murder Row.
She patted the herb sack that she’d acquired from Theryos. Aly sighed again. At least half of the bloodthistle was gone. She’d given a few leaves out, but had indulged in too many herself. Silently she cursed the addiction. Her race was very susceptiable to the fel rush brought on by bloodthistle, especially after the destruction of the Sunwell so many years ago.
After snagging a light breakfast of fruit that she pilfered from the inn’s common area, Aly hit the streets of Silvermoon City. She spent most of the day utilizing previous contacts of hers and cashing in on a few favors. As evening approached, she began to feel that she wasted her sources and IOUs. None of the leads went anywhere. It perplexed her how no one seemed to know who this woman was. She would have been thrilled to have just discovered her name at this point. Aly still couldn’t figure out why the contractor wouldn’t at least hand over that information.
Unless he didn’t know it either… (continue reading…)
Twin Albino Drakes!
by Syrana on Oct.12, 2009, under World of Warcraft
So, recently I’ve taken a bit of a break from my main. I’ve been playing some alts in WoW, playing Aion, and occupying my time with other various things. Last Thursday, I logged into Syrana to do some dailies and quest a bit in Icecrown. It was fun, since I hadn’t done dailies in quite some time. Plus, I really needed some gold. Prior to taking the break from the daily grind, I had dropped a lot of g on mounts.
Well, Sunday evening we returned from being out of town. Sideshow logs in and sees he’s quite close to completing Leading the Cavalry, so he buys up some mounts…
Of course, I cannot let this go for long. I knew I was relatively close to completing this achievement myself. I log on, check auctions (yay! money!) then hop on Syrana to do some dailies. I take a look at my status and see I only need 2 more mounts. I hadn’t bought all the Nether Riding Rays yet, so off I went to Skettis and evened up the score!
So we are now the proud owners of the fugliest drakes in game. Woo!
Screenshot Sunday: Turning Over A New Leaf
by Syrana on Oct.11, 2009, under Screenshots
What?! A Screenshot Sunday without a WoW screenshot? Well I never…
I have mentioned before how beautiful I think Aion is and I wanted to share this. This is a shot from the beginning Asmodian zone, by Lake Tunapre. This tree grows in the middle of the lake.
It is my favorite place, visually, so far. Granted, I haven’t gotten past level 17 yet so many wonders await me.
Sims Saturday: A Legacy is Born Part 11
by Syrana on Oct.10, 2009, under Gaming, The Sims 3
Before I dive into this next segment, I want to take a moment to explain the jump in screenshots and story we may be experiencing over the next few posts.
You see, when I first started playing Sims 3, I was very excited at the newness of it all and was playing a lot… but not taking nearly as many screenshots as I should have been. Well, “should have” might not be the right phrase. I wasn’t really thinking of piecing together this story at the time, so I just took random screenshots here and there. There are some gaps, then waaay too many of the same party, etc.
Once I get these posts caught up to where I am playing in the game (we are getting there quicker than you might think, especially since I’ve slowed my playing in order to try and get caught up!) then I’ll be able to make some better decisions on what I take shots of. That should hopefully help move the story along better down the road.
I hope.
The other thing is that in the beginning of this family I was playing on the extended lifespan. This allowed for me to get a lot done with all of my sims before their birthdays. Eventually, though, I wanted to get moving along with the story and generations, so I scaled the lifespan back to normal.
I’ll shush now and let you enjoy this next segment!
If you are just joining us or looking for a refresher the entire series can be found here.
Generation 2: Aerissa, Xander, and Caleb
With both Xander and Caleb in their teenage years, Aerissa was able to enjoy more peace and quiet without the boys at home. Being an idealistic young adult, she began to explore who she was and do a lot of self-reflection. The more she wrote, the more she wanted to paint and vice versa. Aerissa felt that the only way to truly be in touch with her inner self was to explore her creativity.
She had already decided that she wanted to be a well known author as well as a well known painter. In fact, she wanted to be able to illustrate her own books. However, on her journey of self-discovery she started experimenting with painting styles. Currently, she is quite fascinated with illusionist paintings.
Friday Funnies: How (not) To Pick Up Chicks in WoW Redux
by Syrana on Oct.09, 2009, under World of Warcraft
You might remember the interesting exchange that Sideshow had while on his female warrior. Well, later that evening or the next day, I had an interesting encounter myself… in Goldshire of all places. Now, remember, this is NOT an RP server. And for those of you not familiar with how RP encounters go in game, I assure you they do not start by some random person whispering to ask you out. All I was doing was checking my mail and grabbing some quests.
This is actually a long Friday Funnies post because it took a lot more screenies and cutting to try and capture the entire conversation… especially with all the yell, say, duel, and emote spam that was occurring in Goldshire. (Shocking, I know.)
The screenie below is actually the end of it all, but I thought it might whet your appetite to discover how it got to that point. Enjoy!
TLC Thursday: Food for Thought
by Syrana on Oct.08, 2009, under World of Warcraft
Ahh yes, today The Link Connection has been resurrected! (At least for this week, haha.) Sidenote -
- Rivs of High Latency Life ponders “What Makes a Friend?” after someone tells him that online friends aren’t, well, real.
- Rip of Critical QQ asks why we need labels, because not every gamer neatly fits into the casual/hardcore divide.
- Arioch of Clearcasting questions if we are doing our friends a disservice. Do we create scrubs and noobs by boosting them?
- Thistlefizz of The Cranky Old Gnome has been conditioned since a child to avoid the lava. Remember kids: “The floor is death!“
- Byaghro of Diabolical Minds wants to know what others have done to keep guildmates interested and/or rebuild themselves.
Sidenote – Sideshow and I will be going out of town this weekend. So, I’m going to do my best to make sure there are posts scheduled, but my comment response time may be delayed.
Blog Azeroth Shared Topic: Penalty Systems and Entitlement in WoW
by Syrana on Oct.07, 2009, under Gaming, World of Warcraft
This week’s Blog Azeroth Shared Topic is brought to you by Relevart of Druid Reliquary.
Relevart starts the topic off with posing this:
“I know a few other bloggers have shown interest in the idea of player motivation and I absolutely love the idea of examining the concept of what makes us want to/need to/desire to play.
I thought a neat springboard for such a discussion would be that of the penalty system (or lack thereof, as you might see it) in WoW as well as the recent claims that Blizzard is caving to the casual players’ feeling of entitlement to see and subsequently conquer any and all content, regardless of capability or time.”
I’m not really saying anything for or against, but would like to put forth some different things to consider regarding this topic. (continue reading…)
