Fun With Language

by on Nov.30, 2009, under Gaming, World of Warcraft

Sometimes the words available to us cannot fully capture a meaning we are trying to convey.  This is often when we make up words.  And every once in awhile, made up words can catch on…

Warlockery

Now this is not a word I made up myself.  I’ve seen other warlocks use it.  I might be mistaken, but I think the first time I saw it was over at Killing ‘em Slowly.  This is a word that has definitely caught on.  I recently received a keyword search, searching for it’s meaning:

keyword-warlockery

In a nutshell, warlockery is the very essence of being a warlock.  It encompasses anything and everything that makes us… us!

Ninjavite

I believe this was one of mine.  At least, I don’t recall seeing it or hearing it anywhere prior to me using the word.  It may or may not be catching on since my post about ninjavites, since I have seen it come up in keyword searches for the site.

keyword-ninjavite

A ninjavite is sending or receiving an unsolicited group or guild invite to/from someone you do not know and haven’t talked to.

Polygamerous

After my post about being an MMO swinger, I sought a single word to better represent multi-gaming for me.  During a conversation on Twitter, it came to me… polygamerous.  Yes! Of course! To love multiple games at any given time is to be polygamerous. The flip, loving only one game at any given time, would most certainly be monogamerous.

The next time I used it was in chat after a live recording of TNB when a new project was being discussed.  What started out as an off the cuff comment turned into a great descriptor.  You’ll want to keep your eye on this new polygamerous podcast project!

An Interview With Syrana’s Parents

by on Nov.29, 2009, under Family, Gaming, World of Warcraft

We all know that Sideshow and I are avid gamers.  But did you know my parents are gamers too? About a year ago, Sideshow and I piqued their interest enough in WoW to get them playing.  They each have their own account and are still enjoying the game.  Sure, Sideshow and I had told them about WoW throughout our times playing and they’d be interested in knowing our progress.  Now, it’s a bit different having them play as well.  We get to talk with them in game, my mom is a loyal reader of the blog, and phone conversations and visits are full of WoW chatter.  I thought it might be fun for you, my readers, to hear a little more about them.

… except when I asked them to participate, my dad said, “You’ll have to find your parents first…” (continue reading…)

Home Sweet Home

by on Nov.28, 2009, under Family, Gaming, World of Warcraft

So Thanksgiving has come and gone.  For those that observe Thanksgiving, I hope you had a safe and happy holiday.  For those of you that don’t observe it, I still hope you were safe and happy over the past few days.

Since Sideshow and I started dating, and especially after getting married, we’ve had to develop a holiday rotation.  See, his side of the family lives about 20 minutes from us whereas my side of the family live 3 hours away.  I really don’t know how people can handle multiple family gatherings for large holidays, especially with several stops in one day.  I find it exhausting enough to travel (even though Sideshow does most of the driving!).

Usually when we go out of town, we stay as long as possible before returning to our normal routines.  This usually means staying at my parents’ house until late Sunday afternoon.  This year we were thankful not to be bombarded with snowy travel, but we decided to leave Saturday in the late afternoon in order to bypass the Sunday holiday traffic.  Plus, it seems that no matter where we go for a few days, I can always use a day of downtime back home before returning to the office grind. Sims Saturday: A Legacy is Born Part 17

by on Nov.28, 2009, under Gaming, The Sims 3

If you are just joining us or looking for a refresher the entire series can be found here.

Generation 2: Aerissa and Caleb

It didn’t take long before Caleb worked up the nerve to talk to Chrissy.  They bonded at first over their love of working out.  Caleb helped her with weight training and she helped him with his cardio.  It was odd though, as he fell for her, she seemed to shy away from him.  He didn’t quite understand it.  When he was just being friendly, she responded very well to him, but as soon as he’d try to flirt with her, she’d get weirded out.  Caleb came to accept the fact that she wasn’t a hopeless romantic, and neither was he, so he just kept things level.  Finally he was able to kiss her one day with out getting shoved away.

calebs wife moves in

Shortly after their first kiss, Chrissy began spending the night.  Caleb noticed she was slowly moving in, which made him happy.  He was afraid she’d freak out if he asked her directly.  The rest of the family thought Chrissy was a little odd, but she seemed nice enough overall.  Well, unless one tried to talk politics with her.  That was always a lost cause.  The only thing Darcy didn’t like was that her bedroom was getting taken over by Caleb and his little girlfriend.  For one, Caleb only had a 1 person bed, but also because Chrissy was always trying to use her computer to play chess online. AFB: Food Forecast and Thanks

by on Nov.26, 2009, under Family, General

Today I shall be AFB (away from blog).  Most of the day will be spent with family and food…. LOTS of food.  From the moment we hit the road today after work, I had to remove the interwebz IV from my arm.  Sure, I’ll be on Twitter, email, blog, and feed reader here and there.  But, most of the time over the next few days will be pretty gaming free for me.

I can survive, no worries.

Anywho, let’s take a look at the forecast for today:

The morning will have 100% chance of mouthwatering aromas.

The afternoon will bring clouds of mashed potatoes, tender turkey, delicious stuffing, with a chance of a light drizzle of gravy.

There is also a 50% chance of napping.

The evening has a chance of sweets, particularly pies.

Thanks

I’d like to take a moment during this Thanksgiving holiday to share some things I am thankful for today:

My husband

My family

My friends

My health

My job

My readers

My hobbies/games

Enjoy the holiday and we’ll see if I can be awake enough after being filled to the brim with turkey to whip up a Friday post!

Discovery (RP)

by on Nov.24, 2009, under Role-Playing, World of Warcraft

(Part 38) For the complete list of this series, please go here.

The alley behind the orphanage was quiet, save for the sounds of rats scurrying around the trash.  Aly, dressed all in black, slinked along in the shadows.  The orphanage was dark, since it was way past everyone’s bedtime.  Peeking through windows on her way to the back of the building, it seemed safe to assume the office was in the back.

Aly carefully climbed on top of the piles of trash, gripping the windowsill to pull herself up.  Using her dagger, she jimmied the window lock.  She slid the window open and crawled inside.  She crouched on the floor, listening.  Satisfied that no one was nearby, she peered around the dark room.  Aly let her eyes adjust until she could make out objects in the room: desk, chair, bookshelves, and file cabinets.  Aly crawled over to the cabinets, and tried to open one of the drawers.

Locked.

“That never stopped me before,” she quipped, taking out her lockpicking tools.

Quickly she popped the lock and began rifling through the overstuffed drawers.  At first there didn’t seem to be much organization with the way they were thrown into the drawers, but after awhile the filing system appeared to be by year.  Doing some quick math, Aly tried to estimate the year Aerissa would have entered the orphanage.  The older the files, the dustier they were.  Aly kept rubbing her nose, struggling to suppress sneezes. Guild Event Ideas for Pilgrim’s Bounty

by on Nov.23, 2009, under Guides, World of Warcraft

This year marks a new in game holiday, Pilgrim’s Bounty, which lasts for a week.  There are outfits, achievements, a pet, and of course food!

So if you are looking for some guild event ideas in order to kick back and relax, socialize, or otherwise take a break from whatever your current grind may be, take a gander at the list below.  I’m purposely leaving them vague in order to let your imaginations and creativity expand upon them.  Sometimes all we need is a little idea nudge.  Without further adieu:

Pilgrim’s Bounty

-Gather your guildies to the feasting tables to share in a meal together.  Bonus if everyone is dressed like a pilgrim. (This will also help complete several achievements for the holiday)

-Turkefy your guild’s rogues

-Guild member appreciation:

-Showing thanks for your guildmates

-Guild meeting to have speeches of thanks

-Sharing strengths you see in your guildies

-Cook out! Gather together with various cooking materials to help each other level cooking, sharing in food, and achievements.

-Recipe contest for WoW themed goodies (which could then be submitted to Nourish!)

Newsflash: New Blame Sponsee!

by on Nov.21, 2009, under General, World of Warcraft

Just a quick update to let everyone know that we have a new #iblamesyrana sponsee!  That’s right! Pixelated Executioner has upped the ante!

Our original goal was 500 blame tweets, which we have reached.  Those were sponsored by Sideshow, Samodean, and myself.

Then Fulguralis and Fuubaar raised the bar by offering to sponsor the next set of blame tweets, putting the goal at 1000 tweets.

Now Pixel will be sponsoring a third set of tweets – bringing the goal up to 1500!

Let’s do this – For the Children!
