We interrupt normally scheduled posting…

*confetti*

Can't help it, I'm excited to have reached this milestone.  I have some posts lined up that pertain to a year of existence (hilarious search terms, favorite posts, love to the readers and referrers, etc.) and I hope you enjoy the trip down memory lane with us – whether or not you've been reading since we started up there's sure to be something that you'll enjoy!

Later today will be a post with contest information, so be sure to check that out!

All my other “normal” weekly posting may or may not occur over the next two weeks, with the holidays and all… just a heads up….

Happy 1st Blogiversary!

That's right! Today marks exactly 1 year since I posted my first post here. Can you believe it?

I can hardly believe it, to be honest.

When we started this blog, I mostly wanted a place to share my fan fiction… fan fiction that I had started writing over a year ago.  I thought if I got in the habit of posting it, it'd help “force” me to continue working on it.  Seriously, it's been difficult to have my head so filled with all of Aerissa's adventures and not let them out.

I'd be lying if I said I posted them purely for myself. In part that is true, but I thought someone else might enjoy reading it too.  Since it's not a story I can ever go and get published (yes, Blizz, I know very well it is your copyright) there really isn't much for options if I want to share what I've created within Blizz's world.

So to blogging I would go.

Sideshow and I discussed it and decided from the get-go to have the blog be open for various games, music, etc. even if we probably would focus more heavily on World of Warcraft.

Of course, I pitched myself as a warlock (which I am), but as much as I dreamed of providing useful information… the inevitable occurred.

We focused on entertainment.  Fun.  Humor.

The occasional controversial commentary would leave my brain through my fingers and get published.

But we were us.  We're a bit quirky and joke around a lot in real life, so why be all serious in text?

The best part? We've met and gotten to know some AWESOME people.

The Crazy Part

We have over 356 published posts for the past year.  And 30some drafts/ideas/scribblynotes saved.

/mindboggle

I know there were days I skipped posting (for whatever reason) but there were days that saw multiple posts.

You know what's crazier? I've barely played anything in several weeks.

It's not because I'm burnt out, bored, or unhappy with the games I play.  I haven't canceled any accounts either.

Time is a precious commodity and blogging (and everything that goes into it) has been my priority  most recently.  I've discussed before about how gaming helps me unwind and recharge for my job.  But you know what I've found out? Blogging does that for me too.

And I sure seem to have plenty to say and share even though my “normal” playtime has plummeted recently.  (I can guarantee that won't last.  My playtime will increase again after the holidays, more than likely.)

Your Favorite Posts

Recently I asked for some feedback on your favorite posts.  The responses I received included the following:

My Favorite Posts

Oofta, ya know… I feel sort of weird saying, “These are my favorite posts that I wrote.. myself.”  But, hey, I do have certain ones that I like more than others… so here goes!

In no particular order….

I do have a soft spot for my fan fiction (well, duh) but there are certain parts of it I think are better.  But, that will be for another time.

Stats Favorite Posts

Google Analytics gives me interesting information about the blog.  Visitors, search terms, referring links, page views, countries of visitors, etc.

Here are the top 5 posts of the year, based upon number of unique pageviews (but not including the homepage of the blog):

#5 – Friday Funnies: How (Not) To Pick Up Chicks In WoW Redux

#4 – Hallows End: Trick or Treating in Northrend

#3 – World of Warcraft Fan Fiction (Technically not a post, but an index… but it's seen a lot of action this year!)

#2 – Memorial Day: Azeroth's Fallen Heroes

And…. the NUMBER 1 viewed post?!

I'm A Noob Again

Interesting how some of the favorites overlap… and others don't.

Welcome

We are a family of gamers. Mom (Darcy/Syrana) and Dad (Brian/Sideshow) have been gaming for as long as they can remember back when you only had a joystick to use and saved your games to cassette tapes.

They've been gaming together since they met in 2002. Sometime after 2006, they both started playing World of Warcraft and did that for many years. They started this blog, originally called Sideshow & Syrana which has now transitioned to the new Stay-At-Home Gamers site, while keeping all of the original content.

Starting in 2010, two more gamers came along (now known as Princess Boo and Mr. X) and they are now old enough where they both enjoy playing games and watching others play games. They are both excited to have others to watch them play their favorite games. Come along with us and let's enjoy these games together!
